SALISBURY — Gale Fearon Stanley, 83, died unexpectedly June 8, 2021, at his home in Salisbury Village after a few years of declining health. 

He was born in Woodsville, N.H, on July 6, 1937, son of William G. Stanley and Beryl Fearon Stanley. He attended school in Woodsville and Tilton, N.H.

Gale joined the National Guard at 17 before transferring to the Navy and then the Air Force, where he retired in 1975. He saw many parts of the United States as well as Korea. He was a decorated veteran. He then went on to work at several Post Offices in Vermont before retiring and doing service work in the community, volunteering for ACTR. He also worked at G. Stone Motors. 

Gale is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Elaine. They were married over 60 years. They had three sons, Glenn of Ripton, Steven of Salisbury, and Gary and wife Gloria of Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren Zachary and wife Ashley of Stanley, W.Va., Robyn Stanley of Middlebury, Matthew of Middlebury, Jarrod Stanley of Springfield, Oregon, Sanjay of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Brianna of Jamaica.

Gale is preceded in death by his parents, William and Beryl, and three brothers, William D. Stanley, Scott Stanley, and Daryl Stanley.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday July 6, at 11 a.m., at Lakeview Cemetery in Shoreham followed by a celebration of his life at 1 p.m., at the V.F.W. Post 7823 on Exchange Street in Middlebury.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
