Kirkland Barton Smith, 70, Addison County resident
ADDISON COUNTY — Kirkland Barton Smith, 70, passed away peacefully at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 listening to Moonlight Sonata with his nieces, Pamela and Eryn, with whom he lived. He loved classical music, 1950’s Rock and Roll, NASCAR and Middlebury College Women’s Hockey games. He also enjoyed seeing his friends at Charter House and Speak Up Events. He grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y., spent his young adult years in White Plains, N.Y., and enjoyed the last 15 years in Addison County, Vt., with his family.
He is survived by his brother, Jefferey Smith of Connecticut; his niece, Pamela Smith and her spouse Jason Couture, of Vermont; niece Kimberly Smith of Massachusetts; great-nephew Dylan Smith of Vermont; great-niece Eryn McElhaney and her spouse, Ashley McElhaney of Vermont; and great-great niece and nephew Graelyn and Owen of Vermont.
He is predeceased by parents Dr. Alexander and Emily Griffin Smith; brother Alexander “Sandy” Smith, Jr.; sister Catherine Smith; and longtime caregiver, Talumene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Addison County Home Health and Hospice.
His funeral will be held at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury, Vt., at 2 p.m. on May 24, 2021. Graveside services will be held in Annapolis, Md., on May 28, at 11 a.m.
Kirkland will be missed by his beloved family and caregivers.
