BRIDPORT — Jon C. Rigg Sr., 84, died Saturday morning, May 1, 2021, at his residence in Bridport after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 11, 1937, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Emerson and Martha (Carter) Rigg.
Jon attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tenn., from the 5th-8th grades as well as schools in Kansas, Florida, and Middlebury before graduation from Cridersville High School in Cridersville, Ohio, class of 1956. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Paris Island, S.C., and Camp Lejeune, N.C.
After returning to Vermont from the military Jon helped establish the family farm in Bridport. He also met and married Sally Spaulding on Sept. 15, 1962. Jon had worked at the Weeks School in Vergennes and then became co-owner of Champlain Sales in East Middlebury.
He was a 62-year member of Morning Sun Lodge No. 5 F & A.M. of Bridport.              
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Sally (Spaulding) Rigg of Bridport; his son Jon C. Rigg Jr. and his significant other Cybil Myrick and their daughter Savannah; by his brother Joe Rigg and his family; his stepbrother Flip Harby and wife Trudy; by his aunt Barbara Carter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Per Jon’s wishes there will be no services at this time A celebration of his life with Masonic Services will be held at a later date.
