NEW HAVEN — Julius Howard Larrow, 85, died Jan. 3, 2021, peacefully with his wife and best friend, Midge by his side.
He was born in 1935, graduated from Beeman Academy in 1953 and from Vermont State School of Agriculture (VTC) in 1954. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard Julius Larrow and Inza Roberts Larrow, and brother Paul Larrow. He was married to Bertha Comeau in 1955. They had five children: Melvin Larrow (Priscilla), James Larrow (Nancy), Glenn Larrow (Gina), Diane Larrow, and Debbie Larrow; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In 1988 he married Midge Vincent. He is also survived by his step-children: Ronald Vincent (Janelle), Brad Vincent (Laurie), Lisa Myers (Brian), and Greg Vincent (Amy); 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was also predeceased by Lee Vincent.
He owned Jersey Ledge Farm in New Haven, Vt., for many years, where he raised an award-winning herd of registered Jerseys. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and again showed his talent with genetics by developing a dominant strain of Grand Night and Grand Night Show Champion Bluetick hounds.
After selling the farm he worked for many years for the town of New Haven highway crew. Julie was well known on Lake Champlain as Fishfinder. As the captain of his 23-foot cuddy, he caught lakers, walleye, and salmon throughout the lake. In the fall he traveled to Lake Ontario and hooked up kings and Coho salmon. He made a point to instill his love of hunting and fishing to his children, and that tradition has carried on into the next generation.
Julie was one of the founding members of the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department and their Fire Chief for the first nine years. He was instrumental in getting their first Frontline Pumper and building the Fire Station. Accomplishments include lifetime membership to the New Haven Fire Department, the Addison County Firefighters Association, as well as serving as President of the ACFA.
