Vergennes Police Log for Sep. 24

VERGENNES — Vergennes police were able to find a juvenile female who went missing on Sept. 14, and then reunite her with her family with help from her cellphone company.
Police said they were told the girl was last seen by a friend that Monday walking home from school on Main Street. They said the girl did not answer her cellphone, but with cooperation from her provider police were able to ping her phone a number of times over the course of 48 hours.
They used that information to narrow down their investigation into the girl’s whereabouts, and were eventually able to reach her by calling a friend and asking to speak to the girl, who police said was in a nearby town.
They then arranged a meeting between the girl and her family, and she agreed to return home.
During the week of Sept. 14 to 20, Vergennes police also conducted 24 motorized patrols, six foot patrols and three property watches, and:
• On Sept. 14, dealt with a number of adults and juveniles involved in a dispute in a Main Street apartment. Police said they would follow-up with the parties “due to threats of harm and intimidation.”
