VERGENNES — Vergennes police were able to find a juvenile female who went missing on Sept. 14, and then reunite her with her family with help from her cellphone company. 
Police said they were told the girl was last seen by a friend that Monday walking home from school on Main Street. They said the girl did not answer her cellphone, but with cooperation from her provider police were able to ping her phone a number of times over the course of 48 hours. 
They used that information to narrow down their investigation into the girl’s whereabouts, and were eventually able to reach her by calling a friend and asking to speak to the girl, who police said was in a nearby town. 
They then arranged a meeting between the girl and her family, and she agreed to return home. 
During the week of Sept. 14 to 20, Vergennes police also conducted 24 motorized patrols, six foot patrols and three property watches, and:
• On Sept. 14, dealt with a number of adults and juveniles involved in a dispute in a Main Street apartment. Police said a dispute over a missing cellphone trigged the incident, and the phone was returned to its owner. Police said they would follow-up with the parties “due to threats of harm and intimidation.”
On Sept. 15, police:
• Spoke with a Mountain View Lane resident who had received a suspicious postcard in the mail from an unknown source; police told the resident to report any further such correspondence.
• Dealt with a minor two-car accident at the intersection of Main and Green streets.
• Helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on Panton Road.  
• Conducted a welfare check on an elderly Main Street resident; police contacted the man, who had been sleeping.
• Sent the department K9 unit to help Vermont State Police try to find a driver suspected of impaired operation who fled his vehicle and ran off. Police said because of dense vegetation the K9 team couldn’t find him.
• On Sept. 16 took a report from a First Street resident that his girlfriend had been fighting with him. Police couldn’t find the caller.
• On Sept. 17 heard from a Main Street resident who said her granddaughter was causing problems at the caller’s place of work. Police discussed a no-trespass order with the complainant and reached out to Department for Children and Families, who currently had custody of the granddaughter.
• On Sept. 18 received a complaint from a Walker Avenue resident that she was finding items stuck in her vehicle’s exhaust system.
• On Sept. 20 helped VSP on Route 22A in Panton at an accident scene with an unresponsive driver.
