Lincoln news for Aug. 27

LINCOLN — The Lincoln Library Community Read for August is “Black Is The Body: Stories From My Grandmother’s Time, My Mother’s Time, and Mine” by Emily Berner. “Black is the Body” won the Christopher Isherwood Prize for autobiographical prose in the Los Angeles Times2020 Book Prizes competition. A native of Nashville, Emily has, since 2001, been a faculty member at University of Vermont, where she is the Julian Lindsay Green and Gold Professor of English. The library has many copies of this book, so they invite anyone who might be interested in reading it to do so. There will be an outdoor discussion at the library this coming Monday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
There is a new “take and make” activity pack available at the library that coincides with a story walk. Enjoy reading the story as you walk along outside the library. The book is called “Knots on a Counting Rope” and the activity pack involves practicing tying knots with a length of rope.
FROM FRIENDS OF LCS: The Lincoln Community School is trying to increase its capacity for outdoor teaching and learning in covered, sheltered spaces including building a new outdoor teaching pavilion. School starts soon and we are trying to raise $15,000 in the next 15 days to support this initiative. Visit friendsoflcs.org for more information and to donate online. You can also mail a check to Friends of LCS and send it to P.O. Box 361, Bristol, VT 05443. Thank you for supporting our children and our wonderful community school!
FROM KERRY, PRESCHOOL TEACHER: The Lincoln Cooperative Preschool is having the same great crew that is building an outdoor learning space for LCS build one for them, too. The preschool is going to be open five days a week with full enrollment. Children also have the option to do fully online preschool with Lincoln Cooperative as well, and some are doing that. They will have outdoor sinks and are planning on being almost completely outdoors this fall. Kerry says they also have a good-size tent going up so children will have plenty of protected space to play and learn with safe physical distancing.
We hope that anyone who is able to, will also support the Lincoln Cooperative Preschool fundraising effort of $15,000 as well. Donations can be sent to the Lincoln Coop Preschool, Outdoor Classroom Project, 876 E. River Road, Lincoln, VT 05443, or look for the soon-to-be-launched GoFundMe page on social media. The preschool is a registered non-profit and are happy to send a tax deduction receipt to you.
SAVE THE DATE: The first day of school for Mount Abraham Unified School District is Tuesday, Sept. 8 — the day after Labor Day.
Until next time … Don’t Let Yesterday Take Up Too Much Of Today. Success Has No Time Limit. Stay Positive.
