MUHS boys’ hockey falls to Rice

SOUTH BURLINGTON — No. 3 Rice on Wednesday eliminated the No. 6 seeded Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team from the Division I playoffs, 3-0, in a quarterfinal matchup.
Rice improved to 17-4 with its third shutout victory of the winter over the MUHS. The Tigers, who were competitive all winter despite a series of injuries — including three of the season-ending variety to senior mainstays Kam Bartlett, Robbie Bicknell and Jeffrey Stearns — finished at 11-10.
Connor Peet scored twice for the Green Knights and set up Sam Rubman’s goal, and goalie Cale Layman worked the shutout.
The Tigers’ other seniors are Hale Hescock, Daniel Hodsden, Zeke Hooper, Devon Kearns, Ryan Nadeau and Logan Pierson-Flagg.
