ORRTANNA, Pa. — Douglas Raymond Williams, of Orrtanna, Pa., passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2020. He was born in Middlebury, Vt., on Sept. 7, 1950, the son of the late Everett and Pauline (Rocheleau) Williams.
Doug is survived by his wife Karen; four children and their spouses, Jennifer Williams of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Jonathan and Diane Williams of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Amanda and Tom Morrison of Fort Mill, S.C. and Robert and Lila Gach of Manassas, Va.; and 11 grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Phillip Williams and his partner Paula Mayer of Middlebury, Vt.; sister Donnalee Many and her husband Paul of Middlebury, Vt.; and sister Jerilyn LaDuc of Rutland.
He was predeceased by his brother Michael Williams and sister Claudene Slack.
Doug retired from the Department of Homeland Security, where he was employed for 31 years at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Md. He worked with government agencies such as FEMA, ATF, FBI, National Fire Academy and several others, educating on arson investigation and national emergency response. He was a ski patroller for 22 years at Liberty Mountain Resort, where he cherished his time skiing and helping others. He enjoyed the early mornings of sunrise and mowing the fairways at the golf course.
Doug dedicated his life to the service of others, sifting through the rubble of the Oklahoma City bombing, coordinating emergency response to catastrophic hurricanes Katrina and Andrew, running into burning buildings to rescue those in need, working on the response to huge forest fires in the west, and taking part in the massive government effort during 9/11.
Doug was passionate about skiing, loved the outdoors, camping, traveling, hunting and most of all spending time with family and friends. His infectious smile and laughter will forever be missed.
Memorial and celebration of life services were held on Feb. 9 in Pennsylvania.
In his memory donations can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or St. Jude.◊
