Middlebury Police Log: Accident lands driver with DUI
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Albert LaPlante, 51, of Milton for driving under the influence, after he allegedly drove off the road at the intersection of North Pleasant and High Streets on Feb. 7.
Police said they measured LaPlante’s blood-alcohol content at 0.244%; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Assisted a Valley View resident with an unwanted, intoxicated guest on Feb. 3.
• Checked on the welfare of a local child in the Delancy Lane area on Feb. 3. Police found the child to be OK.
• Responded to a report of a woman acting “irrationally” in the Court Street area on Feb. 3. Police referred the woman to Counseling Service of Addison County.
• Received a call from a person believing that a person under the influence of marijuana was poised to drive a child from Middlebury Union Middle School on Feb. 3. Police said they were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
• Assisted a Sarah’s Way resident who had received a threatening voicemail on Feb. 4.
• Receive into evidence a counterfeit $100 bill on Feb. 4. Police turned it over to U.S. Secret Service.
• Took a “heavily intoxicated” woman into protective custody on Feb. 4 and took her to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center to stay until sober.
• Helped a local drunken person return to their residence on Feb. 4.
• Investigated a report of possible trespassing/squatting at a local business in the South Village Green area on Feb. 4.
• Helped a drunken woman get to her home on Court Street on Feb. 5.
• Connected a MUMS student to counseling services on Feb. 5.
• Separated those involved in a family fight at a Monarch Court home on Feb. 6. Police said they issued a no-trespass order on one of the parties.
• Searched in vain for a driver who had reportedly been operating erratically at the intersection of Cross and Main streets on Feb. 7.
• Served a no-stalking order on a man in the Court Street area on Feb. 7.
• Assisted a Weybridge Street resident who alleged having received a scam phone call on Feb. 7.
• Responded to a noise complaint at a Court Street residence on Feb. 7.
• Warned a driver for operating erratically around the Champlain Farms store on Court Street on Feb. 8.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS officials enter a Kings Row home on Feb. 8.
• Responded to a reported fight between two men at the Charter House warming shelter on North Pleasant Street on Feb. 8. Police have referred the case to the Addison County State’s Attorney’s office for possible prosecution.
• Enforced the winter parking ban at around 3 a.m. on Seymour Street on Feb. 8.
• Mediated a family dispute that had occurred in a moving vehicle near the intersection of Foote Street and Quarry Road on Feb. 9.
