Vermont State Police Log: Mailboxes stolen in four towns

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating the theft of mailboxes in several northern Addison County towns late last week.
This past Friday morning, Dec. 27, troopers received a report of stolen mailboxes on Sand Road in Ferrisburgh. Police said 11 mailboxes had been taken or removed from posts in the ground. The missing mailboxes were later located at a fishing access on Fort Cassin Road in Ferrisburgh.
Later that day, at around 5 p.m., Vergennes police passed on a report of a mailbox stolen on Macdonough Drive.
Reports of more stolen or damaged mailboxes came in on Saturday morning — this time from Route 7 and Dakin Road in Ferrisburgh; Route 66 in Waltham; and Rotax Road and Pond Road in Monkton. Shortly after state police received this report, they heard that someone had found numerous mailboxes at the South Slang fishing access off Hawkins Road in Ferrisburgh. Troopers located eight mailboxes on the ice-covered portion of the fishing access. As of late Sunday, troopers had received three additional reports of damaged or stolen mailboxes from various locations in Addison County.
Through investigation police determined the thefts and vandalisms occurred between 4:30 and 11:45 p.m.
The Vermont State Police is requesting assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.
The mailbox theft and vandalism spree was followed by a traditional theft. On Sunday, Dec. 29, the Livingston Farm business on Route 116 in Bristol reported vandalism and stolen money. State police said that someone cut a screen and forced a window open to gain entry into the business before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect(s) exited the business without further disturbance.
The Vermont State Police is requesting assistance in identifying the people responsible for this crime. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 388-4919.
In other recent activity, troopers issued a number of citations for driving under the influence, or DUI. These included:
•  On Dec. 22 at a little before 12:30 a.m., troopers saw a motor vehicle violation on Route 7 in Middlebury and stopped the car. Police said that driver Joseph Burke, 19, of Middlebury displayed several indicators of impairment. They cited Burke for DUI.
•  On Dec. 22 at a few minutes before 11 p.m., troopers were advised of a pickup truck rollover crash on Route 7 near Route 17 in New Haven. Police said the driver, identified as Rachel Littlehale, 27, of Bristol, was traveling north on Route 7 and left the traveled portion of roadway for an unknown reason.
While speaking with Littlehale, troopers observed several signs of alcohol impairment. After Littlehale received treatment at Porter Medical Center, troopers took her to the Middlebury Police Department for processing and then cited Littlehale for DUI.
•  On Dec. 25 at a little after 4 p.m., troopers received a report of a family fight at a residence in Weybridge. Police said that one of the parties involved, 61-year-old Gary Norris of Weybridge, had operated a motor vehicle on a public highway. While speaking with Norris, police observed several indicators of alcohol impairment. Troopers took Norris into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported him to the Middlebury Police Department for processing. State police cited Norris cited for DUI and released him.
Vermont State Police were assisted by Middlebury police and Middlebury Regional EMS.
•  On Dec. 27 at a little after midnight, troopers stopped a motor vehicle on Four Winds Road in Ferrisburgh after observing a violation. Troopers identified the driver as Timothy Williams, 31, of Burlington. Police screened Williams and subsequently cited him for DUI-Drugs.
