Police arrest Kory George for murder of David Auclair

BURLINGTON — Police have arrested the man they suspect murdered David Auclair in Hinesburg on July 11.
Auclair’s stepson, Kory Lee George, 31, formerly of Monkton, was arrested this morning on suspicion of first-degree murder, burglary and obstruction of justice connected to Auclair’s shooting death in Hinesburg on July 11, according to a Vermont State Police press release.
“Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that George participated in a coordinated effort to kill David Auclair late July 11 at the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest trailhead parking lot,” the press release says. “Investigators further learned that George burglarized a Colchester residence where the firearm that was used in the killing was stolen; that he provided false information about his whereabouts at the time of the homicide; and that he requested that individuals contact witnesses and instruct them to continue to lie to the police.”
George, who was already being held on federal firearms charges, is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on the state charges in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.
The affidavit of probable cause outlining the charges will be filed with the court and made public following arraignment.
George’s mother (and David Auclair’s widow) Angela Auclair is currently being held without bail on charges of aiding in the commission of a felony (first-degree murder) and obstruction of justice.
