Marvella G. Avery, 61, of Cornwall
CORNWALL — Marvella G. Avery, 61, died in the early morning of Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at her residence in Cornwall surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born May 7, 1958, in Lancaster, Pa., the daughter of Robert Bushong Graybill and Marvella Goddard (Rich) Graybill.
Marvella was a graduate of Manhiem Township High School in Lancaster, Pa., and received her B.S. Degree from Davis and Elkins College.
She married James Avery on Oct. 17, 1981, in Lancaster, Pa.
Mickey was someone who saw the best in everyone. She was a positive optimistic person who loved being with her family. She was an avid gardener who could coax anything to grow and a wonderful cook. She loved hiking in the woods with Jim, checking out new places and exploring Vermont, a place she and Jim loved so much they stayed after traveling the country together. Animals and children loved her, she had a warmth and kindness that was unparalleled.
Survivors are her husband James Avery of Cornwall and their children, Leigh Avery and husband Greg Troughton of Groton, Mass., Michael Avery, of Sacramento, Calif., Robert Avery and Marvella Avery, both of Cornwall. Her sisters, Deborah Eshelman (John) of Lancaster, Pa., and Pamela Reeves (Mark) of Port Treverton, Pa., her granddaughter Lyla Troughton and several nieces and nephews also survive her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the Cornwall Congregational Church, with the Rev. Mary Woodman as the celebrant. There will be time during the service for people to share their thoughts and memories of Mickey.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Contributions can be sent to a charity of your choosing. Some suggestions from the family include Otter Valley Activities Association or the Jimmy Fund to help further the fight against cancer. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home The Family will be holding a celebration of life at a future date in the spring of 2020.
