Monkton news for Aug. 1

MONKTON — The historic East Monkton Church will again be open for worship services during the month of August. Services will begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by refreshments and time to socialize.
Then Len Rowell, pastor of the Monkton Friends Methodist Church, will lead this year’s services. Weekly messages will be based on the book of Psalms with selected verses from Psalm 107 on Aug. 4, Psalm 50 on Aug. 11, Psalm 80 on Aug. 18, and Psalm 71 on Aug. 25.
Dedicated in 1867, the East Monkton Church was once one of three places of worship for the Methodist Episcopal Church of Monkton. Although the East Monkton Church ceased to be an appointment of the United Methodists in 1937, it has continued to be a site of worship for the 153 years of its existence.
The East Monkton Church is located at 405 Church Road, in Monkton. Roadside parking is available as well as space on the lawn for those who have difficulty walking. A port-o-let will be on site.
