MUHS musicians to perform all-Gershwin show

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School Instrumental Music Department will be performing an All-Gershwin concert on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the MUHS Auditorium.
Performing that evening will be the String Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble with selections from “Porgy and Bess”. The Concert Band will be performing a medley from “An American in Paris”, “A Gershwin Tribute To Love” with such favorites as “S Wonderful”, “Love is Here to Stay”,  “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Embraceable You” with vocalist Theo Wells-Spackman, and the piano concerto “Rhapsody in Blue” featuring pianist Nico Brayton and the Concert Band.
Nico Brayton is the son of Dan Brayton and Antonia Losano from Middlebury and a junior at Middlebury Union High School. He is a piano student of Cynthia Huard and has played piano since age five. His accomplishments include scholarship recipient for the Vermont All State Music Festival Scholarship Competition and first place in the Music Teachers National Association Vermont State Solo Piano Competition. He has performed at the Chandler Hall Next Generation Recital and Cathedral Young Artists Showcase Recital. In addition, Nico performs at various senior citizen residences and has been asked to perform with both the Vermont All State Orchestra and Concert Band for this year’s festival.
The Instrumental Ensembles are under the direction of Anne Severy. The Concert Choir will also be performing a selection of pieces and is under the direction Liz LeBeau. The concert is free and open to all.
