No. 2 Essex ousts Tiger girls’ hockey

ESSEX — The second-seeded Essex girls’ hockey team rolled to a 9-2 victory on Tuesday over visiting No. 7 Middlebury Union High School in a Division I quarterfinal, ending the Tigers’ season.
The young Tigers finished a successful winter at 12-7, while the Hornets moved to 18-2-1 and one game closer to a title game vs. 19-1-1 St. Albans.
Olivia Miller-Johnson (three goals) and Abby Robbins and Maddy Young (two goals apiece) led the Essex attack. 
Avery Gale netted both goals for the Tigers, and goalie Lydia Deppman stopped 38 shots. Two Essex goalies combined for 14 saves.
