Tiger boys’ basketball splits; earns No. 4 seed

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball team split two games late last week to finish the regular season at 16-4.
The Tigers look to have earned the No. 4 seed in Division I and will apparently host North Country (7-13) on either Tuesday or Wednesday at 7 p.m. and, with a win, host a quarterfinal this weekend. North Country played a tough schedule and owns an early-season win over BFA-St. Albans, which recently twice topped the Tigers.
On this past Thursday host BFA broke on top early and cruised to a lead in a 59-38 victory over the Tigers. The Bobwhites finished at 12-8 with nine straight wins. Tyler Buxton posted 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead MUHS, which played last week without senior Parker Beatty due to injury. The Tigers hope to have Beatty back for the postseason.
On Saturday the Tigers got past visiting Missisquoi, 80-76, as Buxton (22) and Spencer Cadoret (18) combined for 40 points and each grabbed eight rebounds. Buxton added five steals, Jeff Lokatys scored 14, and Zach Dunn (11 points) and Tim Goettelmann each chipped in five assists. Ethan Creller tossed in 24 for the 3-17 T-Birds.
