Carnevale Vergennes travels through time

VERGENNES — The Little City is gearing up to hold its sixth annual Carnevale Vergennes on Saturday, March 2. This event — which benefits three area non-profits, Vergennes Opera House, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes, and the Vergennes Partnership— offers an evening of entertainment, music, dancing, games of chance and skill, exquisite costumes, incredible experiences to purchase and raffle items.
The 2019 theme for Carnevale Vergennes is “The Time Machine,” based on the book by H.G. Wells. “The Time Machine” is one of the first works to delve into the world of sci-fi time travel. Inspired by the industrial revolution and the invention of steam power, Carnevale Vergennes will be styled in Steampunk and, as always, the theme leaves room for creative interpretation — think Victorian England meets Mad Max.
This year, guests will be wowed by the time twisting aerial duo Natalie Cronin and Nicole Dagesse. Music for the evening will once again be provided by DJ Fattie B, who truly knows how to keep an evening going and get people dancing.
Over the last five years, Carnevale Vergennes has raised close to $85,000 for the beneficiary non-profits to share equally. Organizers are looking forward to surpassing the $100,000 mark with the proceeds of this year’s event.
“The Vergennes-wide community is very generous,” said Jeff Fritz, Carnevale Committee member who, with his husband Andrew, is the originator of the event. “Each year we are blown away by how much we are able to raise for the three non-profits, and how much fun we have doing it.”
It is hoped that this year’s support from WhistlePig Rye Whiskey (primary sponsor of the stage) will put the net revenue of the event over the top.
“We love Vergennes, its energy, and the people who make it thrive,” said Larry Swanson, WhistlePig’s chief of ovations. “This one event does so much good for the community and we are delighted to be a part of it and to bring the ‘WhistlePig Stage’ to life.”
Tickets for Carnevale Vergennes are $35 per person and are available online at vergennesoperahouse.org, by calling (802) 877-6737 or at the door if available.
