Letter to the editor: S.C. resident recalls Bristol

Editor’s note: The letter writer, a 1947 graduate of Bristol High School, sent this message to last spring’s graduates of Mount Abraham Union High School and recently passed it on to us.
—————
By way of these cards and this letter I wish to express my pleasure, appreciation and extreme thankfulness for having lived in Bristol, Vermont and having attended your school system for the many years that I was a Bristol resident.
To this day my memory takes me back to those wonderful days and years of growing up with grade and high school friends in Bristol.
Although I departed Bristol all those years ago, it was always a wonderful experience to return for visits with “Vermont” family for many years to visit in Bristol and Winooski.
As Mr. And Mrs. Eugene Johnson (our next door neighbors on Pleasant St.) told me on many occasions during visits home, “You can take a Vermonter out of Vermont, but you cannot take Vermont out of a Vermonter!” That was always true for Ellen and me and family.
So, by way of this letter and these cards, I wish to extend my best wishes to the members of the graduating class of Bristol High School and to the many alumni of Bristol High School.
Graydon Kingsland
Clemson, S.C.
