FERRISBURGH — The Vergennes Union High School Guidance Department is holding several events to assist juniors and seniors in their college applications. For assistance in filing the FAFSA, a representative from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) will hold FAFSA Forms Night at VUHS on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The session is designed to assist parents in the process of completing and submitting the FAFSA and Vermont Grant Application online.
Parents and/or their students will do the “data entry” using their income, tax and asset information. Families will use their tax returns from 2017 to begin this process. Seats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a seat, a parent must contact Anne Vincent in the School Counseling Office directly at 877-2567 ext. 8 or [email protected]. In addition, a variety of information on scholarships is available at the Counseling Office and also at tinyurl.com/VUHS-FAFSA. Stop in the School Counseling Office with any questions.
The “King Pede” card parties as held by the Ferrisburgh Grange are scheduled for the Saturdays of Jan. 5 and 19. All are invited to participate in these get-togethers at the Ferrisburgh Town Hall and Community Center. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a sandwich supper and then on to the games. King Pede is a unique game that involves “trick-taking” techniques such as in Hearts and Spades or Pitch. This is a game of fun and skill so come prepared to use your strategic thinking.
Bixby Library continues to hold several fun events over the winter months. The next children’s story hour will be on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Bixby story hours are designed for preschool age children and explore songs and stories. Over time, families get to know one another, and the children delight in making friends from many of the area towns. These sessions foster preschool literacy, which creates a foundation of curiosity and desire for reading. Also check out the Bixby Movie nights. On Friday, Jan. 4, the movie will be “The Spy Who Dumped Me” and on Friday, Jan. 25, the film will be “Smallfoot.” For more information on all these events, visit bixbylibrary.org.
The Ferrisburgh skating rink is now open and will be available to Ferrisburgh residents as long as the weather cooperates. There are several stacked crates for the youngest beginner skaters. As always, stay off the ice when it is soft, and remove any equipment you use or bring with you (such as goals.) For updates on hours and ice conditions, follow the announcements in the Ferrisburgh Front Porch Forum, the Ferrisburgh skating rink Facebook page, or email to Martha Davis at [email protected].
