Tiger boys’ hockey improves to 3-0
MANCHESTER — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team won twice last week to improve to 3-0. The Tigers were set to take on Champlain Valley on Wednesday night and will host their annual holiday tournament on Friday and Saturday.
On Dec. 19 MUHS blanked host Lake Placid, 5-0, as five Tigers scored: Devon Kearns, Hale Hescock, Kolby Farnsworth, Joey Niemo and Andy Giorgio, who notched his first varsity goal.
Cooper O’Brien, Tucker Stearns, Farnsworth, Kearns and Logan Pierson-Flagg picked up assists. Goalie Jeffrey Stearns worked a 17-save shutout and also earned an assist. Lake Placid goalie Anderson Stanton made 30 saves.
On Saturday the Tigers scored four times in the second period to break a 0-0 tie on the way to a 5-1 victory at Burr & Burton. Aaron Larocque, from Pierson-Flagg, broke the ice, and Kearns, from Farnsworth; Robbie Bicknell, from Hescock, Joey Niemo, from Tucker Stearns and Farnsworth, made it 4-0 after two periods.
O’Brien, from Rubright, added the final goal before Johnny Miceli broke up the shutout. Zeke Hooper made 22 saves for the Tigers, and Ethan Simonds stopped 25 shots for the Bulldogs.
