BRANDON — The two seats in the Rutland-6 House district will be filled by one known quantity and one newcomer when the Legislature convenes in January.
Incumbent Rep. Butch Shaw, a Pittsford Republican, and Democrat Stephanie Jerome of Brandon were the top two vote getters in Tuesday’s election in the district the encompasses Brandon, Pittsford and Sudbury. The four-person race was tightly contested in all three towns.
Total votes received by the candidates were Shaw with 1,702, Jerome with 1,553, Republican Seth Hopkins of Brandon with 1,272, and Progressive Timothy Guiles if Brandon with 942.
The town of Brandon came in with 854 votes for Jerome and 755 votes for Shaw. Hopkins, the Brandon selectboard chair, received 673 votes, and Guiles garnered 526.
Shaw easily won his hometown of Pittsford with 820 votes. The town reported 542 votes for Jerome. Hopkins was a close third with 510 votes; Guiles received 318 votes.
Sudbury came in with 127 votes for Shaw and 157 votes for Jerome. Hopkins received 89 votes while Guiles got 98 votes.
