VUHS boys’ soccer ousted; girls’ teams played semis
ADDISON COUNTY — No. 2 Stowe ended No. 6 Vergennes’ Division III title hopes in boys’ soccer in a Tuesday semifinal, while two local girls’ soccer teams — Mount Abraham and VUHS — played in Wednesday semifinals after the deadline for the print edition. (Click here to read the results.)
Stowe, the six-time defending D-III champion, improved to 14-1-1 by defeating the Commodores, 2-0. Stowe had blown out its first two tournament opponents by identical 9-0 scores.
On Tuesday, Jace Boerger and Jono Nissenbaum scored first-half goals for the Raiders, and goalie Sam Schoepke stopped two VUHS shots. VUHS goalie Gabriel Kadric stopped 11 shots as the Commodores concluded a successful season with a 10-6 record that included two postseason victories.
In D-II on Wednesday, the 9-5-2 Eagle girls, the No. 6 seed, were set to take on No. 2 Rice. The Eagles and 11-2-3 Green Knights twice battled to 1-1 ties during the regular season. The winner will play either No. 1 Milton (14-2) or No. 4 U-32 (12-3-1) at 10 a.m. on Saturday at South Burlington High School.
In D-III on Wednesday the 8-5-2 Commodores girls, seeded No. 6, traveled to meet No. 2 Oxbow (14-1). If the Commodores prevailed they would meet either No. 1 Thetford (13-1-1) or No. 4 Peoples (12-3-1) at Randolph High School at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
