Monkton news for Nov. 1
MONKTON — The Russell Memorial Library has many activities and programs for children and adults to enjoy. On Oct. 31, Halloween night, the library continues the annual “Trick or Treat” fun time from 5 to 6:30 p.m., where every child in costume will be favored with a treat and a free book. Saturday Stories continues on the last Saturday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. featuring a story, song and simple craft.
For the adults, there are many new programs to enjoy at the library. Tabletop Game Night is being held on the first Tuesday of each month, from 4 to 7 p.m. (later if the games are still actively being played). On the last Tuesday of each month, the library hosts “Yarns” for those folks who knit, crochet or do any kind of handwork. Join this circle of yarn workers to relax and visit or learn to knit or crochet. This get together is from 4 to 7 p.m.
On select Wednesday evenings, there are also special programs for adults to enjoy including a Poetry Club that meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. (bring a poem to share), “Articles” Club and the new RML Book Club, which is currently reading “The Six of Crows” by Leigh Bardugo. You can get a copy to loan at the library.
Last but not least is a newly forming group — “Friends of the Library” — facilitated by board member Ian Smiley. Meeting dates are posted on the library website and Front Porch Forum. The library website is russelllibraryvt.wordpress.com. You can call the library at 453-4471 during library hours, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. or Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Don’t forget to also inquire about the library’s passes for area sites in Vermont!
