College students, residents invited to gather after voting
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College Center for Community Engagement and the student organization MiddVote are organizing a community event at College Park (across from Schafer’s Market and Deli) in Middlebury from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, to celebrate civic pride and encourage greater participation in the midterm election.
The event is being hosted as part of #VoteTogether, a national initiative to bring together families, friends, and neighbors in celebration of civic engagement and the act of voting. The initiative aims to create 2,000 voting celebrations across the county. Learn more at votetogetherusa.org.
The event is also supported by MTV’s +1theVote campaign. Middlebury College MiddVote student leaders Nora Bayley and Abby Dennis received an MTV grant to represent Vermont as one of 50 state-specific voting celebrations. Sophomore Dennis shared, “I see voting as important and a way we can make sure our government is working for all of us. I want to help people share the enthusiasm and help make voting something young people are excited about and see value in.”
A tent will be set up in College park and free pizza and hot chocolate will be given out. For those with young children, Middlebury College student volunteers will be doing face painting.
