Letter to the editor: Wygmans deserves a new term as state’s attorney
Dennis Wygmans, Addison County State’s Attorney, has deep and broad experience. He was appointed to the position in 2016 after spending four years in Addison County prosecuting cases of domestic and sexual violence. He previously had many years’ experience as a defense attorney and practicing corporate and entertainment law. Dennis is a native Vermonter and had a nearly 18-year career in the music industry before becoming a lawyer.
The job of state’s attorney requires dedication. Dennis is often called out late at night, early in the morning, and on weekends to deal with emergency situations that are often tragic. He has made numerous trips out of state to take depositions from victims of sexual and domestic violence. He believes keenly that meeting these demands of the job is vital to protecting the interests of violence survivors.
Dennis has shown himself to be creative and innovative in his job. This month he is organizing two “Cannabis Expungement Days” to allow local residents to clear their records of marijuana-related and other misdemeanor convictions. Through a collaborative arrangement between the courts and counseling services of Addison and Chittenden counties he has helped provide treatment services for high-risk offenders. He advocates for mental health insurance and services for those whose criminal activity is related to substance abuse and/or a mental health condition.
Dennis Wygmans has the experience, dedication, and creativity needed for the job of Addison County State’s Attorney. He deserves your vote so he can continue this important work for the next four years.
