Field hockey: Otters post only victory
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school field hockey games this week Otter Valley won big on Monday, while both Middlebury and Mount Abraham came up short on Tuesday. Otter Valley was set to take the field on Wednesday at Fair Haven after the deadline for this issue.
Teams will play their final regular season games late this week, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will announce playoff pairings on Monday.
On Monday the Otters pelted visiting Fair Haven, 10-0, in a game rescheduled from Oct. 2. Alia Edmunds (three goals, assist), Sophie Markowski (two goals, assist) and Morgan Laporte (two goals) led the attack. Riley Keith, Brittney Jackson and Jadynn Pope added a goal apiece. In the OV goal Elinor Ross and Jamie Dube-Bordeau split time, with Ross having the only save. Fair Haven’s Jordan Howard made 24 saves.
OV (8-4) and Fair Haven met again on Wednesday at Fair Haven, and the Otters will wrap up at Windsor on Saturday. The Otters are in good shape for a top-four seed in Division II.
On Tuesday visiting Rice blanked MUHS, 5-0, as Lisa McNamara scored four goals. Goalie Ileigh Aube stopped nine shots for the 1-11 Tigers.
The Tigers finish by visiting Essex on Thursday. They might still host a D-I play-in game early next week.
D-I title contender South Burlington rolled past visiting Mount Abe on Tuesday, 6-1, as Wolves Lindsey Booth and Kate Hall combined for five goals.
Ava Konczal scored for the Eagles, and goalies Chessley Jackman and Kira Murray combined for 13 saves.
The 7-2-3 Eagles have clinched a top-four seed in D-II and can still earn the No. 1 seed. They play at U-32 on Thursday and at Colchester on Saturday.
