In local field hockey, Mt. Abe was the only winner
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school field hockey earlier this week Mount Abraham remained unbeaten, while Middlebury dropped a home game to a top Division I team and OV fell at home to the top D-III team.
EAGLES
On Monday the Eagles rode Molly Laurent’s first-half strike to a 1-0 victory over visiting Mount Mansfield. Jalen Cook set up the goal, and goalie Chessley Jackman worked a three-save shutout as the Eagles improved to 7-0-2. MMU goalie Amelia Sanborn stopped six shots.
The Eagles, Division II’s top team, were scheduled to visit Essex on Wednesday after the deadline for this setion.
TIGERS
On Monday visiting D-I title contender South Burlington (9-1) defeated the Tigers, 8-0, as Lilly Truchon scored three times for the Wolves and goalie Ainsley Hultgren stopped five shots. Tiger goalie Cassie Bettis made 18 saves.
The 1-8 Tigers were scheduled to travel to Colchester on Wednesday.
OTTERS
Visiting Windsor on Tuesday improved to 8-3 and took over first place in D-III by topping the Otters, 3-2 in overtime. Alia Edmunds gave OV an early lead, but Windsor rebounded to head at the half, 2-1. A Riley Keith goal with 7:23 left in regulation knotted the score, but Hannah Wood’s second goal of the game was the OT game-winner for Windsor. Two Windsor goalies combined for four saves, and OV goalie Ellie Ross made nine.
OV dropped to 6-4 but remained in fourth place in D-II and in position for a quarterfinal home game.
