THETFORD — Middlebury Union High School runners Jack Christner and Mary Ann Eastman posted the best local finishes in the boys’ and girls’ 5-kilometer races, respectively, in Saturday’s 28th Annual Thetford Academy Woods Trail Run.
In fields of more than 600 runners and about 50 teams, Christner came in 38th in the boys’ race, while Eastman finished 73rd in the girls’ event, the only runners among the MUHS, Vergennes, Mount Abraham and Otter Valley competitors to crack the top 100 in either race.
Essex (50 points) cruised to the win in the boys’ race, with U-32 (99) second and Burlington (159) third. The Tigers were 20th at 652, VUHS was 28th (801), OV (1,278) finished 49th, and Mount Abe was 50th (1,397).
Champlain Valley (87) won the girls’ race, followed by Amherst-Pelham (Mass.) at 145 and Essex (188). MUHS 652) was 24th, and OV (1,347) finished 46th. The Commodores and Eagles did not field full teams and did not score.
