Bixby Library offers fiction class

VERGENNES — The Bixby Memorial Library is offering a new writing workshop beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4 and running from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday nights for eight weeks.
“The Writing Life: Fiction 2018” will be led by Kris Johannesson MFA. She is a frequent lecturer at UVM and she has taught for over twenty years and worked with students of all ages. Her writing has been published in literary journals, web journals and literary anthologies. This offering follows her popular Memoir 101 and Horror Writing workshops at the Bixby in 2017.
The workshop is open to writers of all levels. Writers will work as a group in discovering the elements of fiction writing such as frame and arc within plot, setting and voice and world building and authenticity. Weekly sessions will offer: instruction, video resources, class discussion, optional in-class and take home writing exercises. As sessions progress, there will be some time to discuss workshop writing among peers. Readings pertaining to weekly topics will be provided.
All writers are welcome, (e.g. poets, memoirists, biographers, historical writers, etc.) Elements of fiction can cross genres and add to skills, ultimately improving all writing. This is a welcoming and low-stress workshop, however, there will be instruction and it is not intended to function solely as a peer-writing group. Participants don’t need to attend every class, but they must pre-register for the series. There are only 20 spaces available.
Pre-register by calling Maddy Willwerth at 802-877-2211 or email her at [email protected].
