Porter hires new general surgeon

MIDDLEBURY — UVM Health Network Porter Medical Center President Dr. Fred Kniffin, has announced that Dr. Elya Vasiliou has accepted a general surgery position with the UVMHN Medical Group-Porter Medical Center and will start this December. “Dr. Vasiliou is a Johns Hopkins fellowship trained head and neck surgeon and will continue Porter’s long tradition of outstanding general surgery services,” he said.
Vasiliou earned her medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2012 and completed her general surgery residency at Summa Akron City Hospital in 2017 prior to completing her fellowship in head and neck endocrine surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital earlier this year. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
“Our community has been blessed with two long-serving, dedicated and talented general surgeons for many years, and with the tragic and unexpected loss of Dr. Brad Fuller, we knew that we needed to find someone to work with Dr. Carl Petri to ensure that our patients continue to have access to this vitally important service” Kniffin added.
Vasiliou will begin seeing patients in December and her office will be located in the medical office building on the campus of the UVM Health Network Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
