Marble Valley baseball stars second in tournament
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — Between July 11 and 18 the 11-and-12-year-old Marble Valley All-Star Baseball Team finished second in a major tournament in Glens Falls, N.Y. The Marble Valley team, which includes many players from Brandon and southern Addison County, won three times before falling to a Saratoga team in the final.
Marble Valley opened with an 8-5 victory over Ticonderoga, N.Y., and followed that up with another win over Hudson Falls, N.Y. (which had also defeated Ticonderoga), this time by a score of 10-0.
That victory clinched Marble Valley the No. 1 seed in the North division and gave the team a berth in the semifinal round. There, Marble Valley played errorless ball in a 6-3 win over Schuylerville, N.Y., to earn a chance to play South No. 1 seed Saratoga in the final.
There, the MV defense did not play its best, according to Coach Duke Whitney, and Saratoga prevailed, 15-2. Marble Valley settled for second place in what Whitney called the biggest tournament in our area.
The Marble Valley team members are Carter Paquette, Trey Lee, Tim Whitney Jr., Owen Thomas, Carson Babbie, Joe Buxton, Isaac Whitney, Drew Pelkey, Jacob Kemp, Gavin Disorda, Gavin Roberts, Cole Warren and Logan Letourneau.
Marble Valley All Stars is comprised of the best players from Brandon, Whiting, Cornwall, Shoreham, Benson and Orwell.
