Lincoln news for July 26

LINCOLN — Great progress is being made on Potato Hill Park and Playground at Lincoln Community School. Here’s an update from LCS Principal, Tory Riley: The seeding is complete and ahead of schedule. Thanks to Steve Harris, Andrew Furtsch, Kevin Breault, and Alden Harwood, watering of the entire site has been successful. Andrew and Steve have used a combination of their own hoses, sprinklers and tractor sprinklers provided by MAUSD. This has been no small feat in the heat, and these two volunteers have experimented with the watering to ensure we have mature-enough grass when school begins.
Chris Acker and his crew completed site work to date ahead of schedule. The baseball diamond is in and a beauty! The younger children’s play area has sand boxes bordered by boulders and stumps. Chris has been flexible and attentive to the project as we make small changes to the plan (I ran into him about 7:30 pm one evening when he swung by to check on the grass).
Bobby Stoddard and company — the site crew headed by Tom Siegfried — has been busy on many fronts. The timber frame pavilion changes daily; most recently window openings and benches have been added. The frame for the circular seating outside of the kitchen is in place. Gnarly and imaginative tree trunks and branches suggest what’s to come for the older children’s play structure. The accessible perimeter path is in place and branches trimmed away thanks to Andrew. Andrew also built raised garden beds that will invite a community-school horticultural project to be determined.
REMINDER: The Three Day Stampede is happening Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Bristol Rec Field. There will be a huge yard sale under 30 tents, a used book sale, over 550 silent auction items to bid on, a bake sale, and much more. There’s something for everyone and all to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Hope to see you there.
Until next time … Plan Well. Laugh Loud. Smile Always.
