Play in Ripton based on diaries of Abigail and John Adams
RIPTON — Actors Diana Bigelow and Jim Stapleton will return to the Ripton Community Church this Sunday night to present “My Dearest Friend- Lovers, Heroes, Scoundrels,” a performance piece by Stapleton based on the letters and diaries of Abigail and John Adams. The Bristol couple may be remembered for their previous performances of Mark Twain’s “Diaries of Adam & Eve” and their own “Songs and Stories.”
John Adams, our second president, and his wife, Abigail, spent much of their married life apart; John was often away on government business of one sort or another. The letters between them are a testament to their affection, insights and originality, as well as a window into the machinations of the Revolutionary period and the building of our nation. The piece includes popular songs of the Revolutionary period.
“My Dearest Friend” will be presented Sunday, July 22, at 7 p.m. Admission is free, donations to the church are welcome. The program lasts about 90 minutes with one intermission. Refreshments will be available
