Poetry: Good-Bye, Ben Franklin

Oh store of Most
Everything. Gold
pins. An aquarium.

Plaid cloth.
The least of things
and more. Main

Street’s store
named for Invention’s
Curiosity.

What can we do
with a key and a kite
string? Invent

electricity. All
manner of pens.
One to sign

a constitution
with. Ours and theirs.
Oh, Middlebury’s

forever shelves
and bins. Toys
in the basement.

Hand-held
flags. Let’s not
forget your rack

of frames.
Oh framers
of our

Constitution.
To which we bid
Adieu,

Good-bye,
Auf wiedersehen
Tam Biet,

our American,
Vietnamese
friend.
