In lax: Tiger, VUHS girls win; Eagles break the ice

ADDISON COUNTY — In midweek local high school lacrosse, the Middlebury girls won after getting good news about an injured team leader, the Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative boys’ team earned its first victory of the spring, the Commodore-Eagle girls quadrupled their 2017 win total, and the Otter Valley boys came up short on the road.
The 7-7 Tiger boys were set to visit Division I first-place team Champlain Valley on Friday after the deadline for this issue.
TIGER GIRLS
In a game marked by senior Andi Boe’s return from a major knee injury suffered in fall soccer, the Tiger girls on Wednesday topped visiting Mount Mansfield, 15-6. Boe, just cleared to play, scored the game’s first goal 1:52 after the opening faceoff and finished with two goals and an assist.
Satchel McLaughlin (four goals) and Anna Hodson (three goals) paced the Tiger attack. Isabel Rosenberg,Ella Nagy-Benson and Emily Laframboise contributed a goal and two assists apiece, and Tulley Hescock andAda Anderson also scored. Goalie Raven Payne stopped 11 shots.
MMU’s Natalie Mahn’s three goals included her 100th career marker, and MMU goalie Samantha Nola made three saves.
The Tigers improved to 10-3 heading into a Friday home game vs. Rice. A win then would apparently have clinched the No. 3 seed in D-I for the defending champs.
EAGLE BOYS
On Thursday the Eagle boys edged visiting Lamoille, 6-5, as Lucas Livingston andRyan Rougier scored two goals apiece and goalie Grady Brokaw stopped nine shots. Phoenix King andRyan Bonar also found the net as Mount Abe/VUHS broke into the win column at 1-8-1. Goalie Lucas Boiscleir made nine saves for the 3-7 Lancers.
The Eagles were set to visit U-32 on Saturday.
VUHS GIRLS
On Thursday the Commodore girls topped host Milton, 13-8, to conclude their regular season, the second for the program at the varsity level, at 4-10. A year ago the joint VUHS-Mt. Abe team debuted with one victory.
Jalen Cook (five goals), Erin Lawrence (three) and Norah Deming (two goals and an assist) led the offense, and Anna Rakowski,Siobhan Eagan andKate Anderson added a goal apiece. Commodore goalie Ashley Tierney stopped 10 shots, one fewer than Milton goalie Molly Gary.
OV BOYS
On Wednesday host Hartford eased past the Otters, 15-5. Hayden Gallo andJustin Tremblay each scored twice for OV, and Ethan Sulik-Doty chipped in a goal. Goalie Alec Stevens made 12 saves for the Otters, who stood at 2-7-1 entering a Friday home game vs. Montpelier.
