Tigers, Eagles win at MUHS track meet

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ and girls’ teams on May 16 each took third at a 10-team meet the Tigers hosted at Middlebury College. The Mount Abraham girls were fourth, while the Eagle boys were seventh.
The Tigers and Eagles combined for a dozen event wins, seven by MUHS and five by Mount Abe.
Tiger CJ Bryant led the way with two individual wins and efforts on two successful relay teams, while teammate Isabel Olson also won two races. Eagle Jackson Counter won two throwing events to pace his team.
Rice won the girls’ team title with 116 points, followed by Champlain Valley (115), MUHS (82), and Mount Abe (66).
Burlington’s 96.25 points led the way among boys’ teams, followed by CVU (94.25) and MUHS (77.75). The Eagles scored 36 points in taking seventh.
The local girls’ winners were:
•  Olson, MUHS, 400 meters, 1:03.84, and 800 meters, 2:27.82.
•  Lydia Pitts, Mt. Abe, 100 hurdles, 16.7.
•  MUHS, 4×100 relay, 55.88 (Chloe Kane, Virginia Patz, Meredith Kimble, Emily Pottinger).
•  Emma Radler, Mt. Abe, pole vault, 9-6.
•  Emma Carter, Mt. Abe, shot put, 30-7.5.
The local boys’ winners were:
•  CJ Bryant, MUHS, 200, 23.86, and 400, 51.92.
•  4×100: MUHS, 46.26 (Tristan Durante, Anthony Garner, Ben Balparda, Bryant).
•  4×400: MUHS, 3:37.13 (Bryant, Hunter Heffernan, Joseph Findlay, Bastiaan Phair).
•  Counter, Mt. Abe, shot put, 40-7, and javelin, 166-10.
