Eagles only winners in high school softball
ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham picked up three wins, two at Vergennes’ expense, to highlight local high school softball earlier this week. In other action Middlebury and Otter Valley dropped games.
EAGLES-VUHS
On Monday the Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Commodores, 22-4 and 23-6, both in five innings.
In the opener Addy Harris drove in four runs on two hits, including a grand slam in the second inning. Cora Funke also homered, while winning pitcher Audrey Shahan, Emily Aldrich andKatelynn Ouellette chipped in two hits apiece.
Cheyenne Jewett,Maria Maloney andAudrey Tembreull picked up RBIs for VUHS.
In the nightcap Harris drove in five runs with two triples and a double while Ruby Ball struck out 10 to earn the pitching win. Camilienne Masse hit a home run and Ruby Ball, Shaelyn Layn, Brooke Perlee,Abby Hoff andMolly Murray each collected a multi-hit game.
Tembreull led the VUHS attack with a pair of hits, including a key RBI hit in a four-run inning.
Both teams also saw action on Tuesday. The Eagles defeated visiting Spaulding, 12-6, to improve to 8-1 and maintain their hold on first place in Division II. Perlee doubled and tripled, and Aldrich, Jenna McArdle, and Ball each poked two hits. Shahan earned the complete-game pitching win, allowing two earned runs.
The Commodores fell to visiting Harwood, 16-6. Jordan Norris, with two hits and three RBIs, and Sarah Rathbun, with three hits and two RBIs, paced VUHS (0-7).
OTTERS
On Monday visiting D-I contender Mount Anthony crunched the Otters, 30-0. The Otters managed just one hit in falling to 3-7 and saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
TIGERS
On Tuesday host Missisquoi (6-1) held off the Tigers, 6-5, by scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh. The 2-4 Tigers had just taken the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the inning, completing a rally from a 4-0 hole. Abby LaRock andGwen Stafford led the MUHS offense with two hits apiece.
