In softball, OV and MUHS both win
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school softball action late last week Middlebury won once and Otter Valley picked up two wins to highlight action that was once again curtailed by uncooperative weather.
Mount Abraham’s only game, at Milton on Thursday, was postponed due to an unplayable field. The 5-1 Eagles still retain a slim lead over 7-1 Fair Haven in the Division II point standings. They will host Vergennes in a Monday doubleheader, with one of the games a makeup of an earlier postponement.
TIGERS
On Thursday Abby LaRock’s big day helped the Tigers get past visiting Fairfax, 5-4. LaRock earned the complete-game pitching win and poked three hits, including the go-ahead double in the fifth inning. Carly Larocque doubled and singled, and Ella Beattie and Bridget Audet also drilled doubles for the 2-3 Tigers.
OTTERS
On Wednesday the Otters broke open a close game with an eight-run sixth inning to defeat host Windsor, 17-9. Katie Coolidge andKrista Wood poked key hits to spark the OV offense, and Morgan LaPorte earned the pitching win.
On Friday the Otters defeated visiting Bellows Falls, 12-5, as LaPorte tossed a complete-game four-hitter, striking out four and walking four. Coolidge tripled, doubled and drove in two runs, and Gabby Poalino drilled two hits and scored four times to spark the offense as the Otters improved to 3-6.
COMMODORES
On Saturday visiting Spaulding cruised past the 0-4 Commodores, 22-7. For VUHS Cheyenne Jewett had a hit and three RBIs, and Sydney Tarte had two hits and drove in a run. Ema Gernander took the pitching loss. The Commodores’ Thursday game at Spaulding was called off.
