March 27 public hearing to focus on new 5-megawatt solar project in Middlebury

MIDDLEURY — The Middlebury selectboard on Tuesday, March 27, will hold a public hearing on a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Global Resource Options and the town of Middlebury regarding the company’s plan to build a 4.99-megawatt solar farm and battery storage project near the intersection of Old Middle Road and Halladay Road.
It was last November that representatives from Global Resource Options, which does business under the name groSolar, presented the town with its proposal to buy a 112-acre parcel off Halladay Road for the solar farm, which would feed energy into the state’s electrical grid. As currently envisioned, the solar farm would cover approximately 40 acres of the 112-acre parcel, owned by Ruth Quesnel.
A draft MOU between the two parties tentatively calls for the project:
•  To be built by Dec. 31, 2019.
•  To ensure an annual property tax payment to the town of at least $40,000.
•  To feature a plant and seed mix designed to attract pollinators.
The hearing is slated to begin at 8 p.m. in the large conference room of the Middlebury municipal building at 77 Main St.
