Panther men’s tennis wins matches, run their record to 5-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Middlebury College men’s tennis team, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division III, on Saturday improved to 5-0 with victories at No. 21 MIT, 6-3, and at No. 21 Brandeis, 9-0. The Panthers return to action during their spring break trip with seven matches in California, beginning with a contest on Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
In the match at MIT (2-3), the Panthers’ doubles teams of Noah Farrell and Peter Martin at No. 2, Timo van der Geest and Nate Eazor at No. 3 and Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger at No. 1 gave Middlebury a 3-0 lead.
Also scoring wins in singles were Schlanger at No. 3 and Cuba at No. 1 in straight sets, and Eazor at No. 6, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Against Brandeis (5-2), in doubles Cuba and Schlanger won at No. 1, Weston Brach and Eazor won at No. 3, and van der Geest and Martin prevailed at No. 2.
In singles Schlanger won at No. 2, before Eazor clinched the match at No. 5. Cuba prevailed at No. 1, as did Andre Xiao over Ben Wolfe at No. 6, van der Geest at No. 3, and Alex Vanezis at No. 4.
