Letter to the editor: Rescue providers offer invaluable service to towns

Our voluntary ambulance service is terrific and I want to thank them publicly for all their service. They have transported me to Porter many times when I have had cellulitis.
Today something different occurred. I changed medical alert companies in order to upgrade to a GPS system. Yesterday I installed the new system and got it working. This morning I had a few minutes before I needed to leave for an appointment so I called the old company and quit their service. No one told me to wait so I disconnected the old system from my telephone, left it there in the bedroom and went on my way. Shortly after I left, the system (apparently working from a battery) sent out a distress call. The police, ambulance service and my friend Sheila were all notified and arrived at my house. There was some difficulty getting in but the ambulance service persisted and was able to search the house to make sure no one was there who needed help.
So thank you again for the invaluable service you provide for our community.
