Bristol Police Log: Police cite man for domestic assault

BRISTOL — On Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11:55 a.m., Bristol police responded to a report of domestic assault.
Police cited Sergiu Babenco, 33, of Bristol for domestic assault, and released him with an order to appear in court on Feb. 20.
Between Feb. 12 and Feb. 25, Bristol police completed 34 foot and car patrols at various locations, namely on Mountain Street, Main Street and surrounding areas including near Bristol Elementary School, and at other locations around town, with five of the patrols done under contract from the town.
Officers also completed four hours and 10 minutes of directed patrol and traffic enforcement in the district and the town under a contract funded by Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
During that same period, officers checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School 11 times.
In other recent activity, Bristol police:
•  On Feb. 12 responded to a district apartment building for a noise disturbance but found on arrival that all was quiet.
•  On Feb. 12 completed a fingerprint request for employment purposes.
•  On Feb. 12 at 10:18 p.m. responded to and facilitated a resolution for a verbal family disturbance at a Mountain Street residence.
•  On Feb. 13 at 1:40 a.m. responded to an alarm activation at a local address. The alarm appeared to be malfunctioning.
•  On Feb. 13 completed a fingerprint request for employment purposes.
•  On Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. responded to local address for a 911 hang-up that was determined to be a misdial.
•  On Feb. 14 at 3:20 p.m. responded to a report of erratic driving and upon locating the vehicle determined that a mechanical defect was at fault.
•  On Feb. 14 ordered the removal of a vehicle causing a parking problem.
•  On Feb. 15 verified a vehicle identification number for a local resident.
•  On Feb. 15 assisted Vermont State Police in contacting a North Route 116 resident in connection with a welfare check.
•  On Feb. 15 at 6:57 p.m. responded to a report that a suspicious man was attempting to break into cars in the Shaw’s parking lot. Police did not locate the man or receive any theft complaints.
•  On Feb. 15 at 10:24 p.m. responded to a dispute between tenants at a local address and resolved the dispute without further incident.
•  On Feb. 16 executed a search warrant related to an active investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
•  On Feb. 16 completed a fingerprint request for licensing purposes.
•  On Feb. 16 investigated a parked vehicle with the engine running for an extended period; the officer found the driver reading before a work shift and determined no further action was required.
•  On Feb. 17, with the assistance of Lincoln animal control, returned to its owners a dog that had been found on Mt. Abraham.
•  On Feb. 19 completed 13 fingerprint requests for individuals for employment purposes.
•  On Feb. 19 at 1810 an officer caught a stray dog, put a notice on the Bristol Facebook page, and turned it over to the owner.
•  On Feb. 20 assisted state police with an incident in the town.
•  On Feb. 20 responded to a two-car crash with property damage on West Street. The officer assisted with driver exchange of information.
•  On Feb. 20 completed a vehicle identification number verification for an individual at the police department.
•  On Feb. 21 logged a vandalism complaint. An unknown person(s) damaged construction equipment at a village home. Investigation is ongoing.
•  On Feb. 21 completed a fingerprint request for an individual for licensing purpose.
•  On Feb. 21 assisted a person who had locked their keys in their car.
•  On Feb. 21 completed a fingerprint request for an individual for volunteer purpose.
•  On Feb. 22 received a found wallet. The owner was located and wallet returned.
•  On Feb. 22 completed a fingerprint request for an individual for volunteer purpose.
•  On Feb. 22 stopped a vehicle on Plank Road for speeding on North Street. After the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, two juveniles were issued citations to appear in Addison Superior Court, Family Division, for possession of marijuana. The officer was assisted at the stop by state police.
•  On Feb. 23 assigned an officer to follow up on a citizen dispute.  Report to follow.
•  On Feb. 23, during a traffic stop, the found the driver in possession of marijuana and issued a civil ticket.
•  On Feb. 23 assisted state police with an incident.
•  On Feb. 23 investigated a minor two-car accident on West Street and wrote a report.
•  On Feb. 24 checked businesses in the area of Main Street and Prince Lane.
