Tiger girls’ hockey upsets Rice on the road

SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team upset host Rice on Monday, 2-1, snapping a 1-1 tie in the third period.
Meredith Kimble’s power-play strike 4:38 into the final period proved to be the difference as the Tigers improved to 6-11 by knocking off the 12-5 Green Knights.
Taylor Moulton scored the Tigers’ first goal, and goalie Abby Hodsden stopped 19 shots for the Tigers.
Kylie Corley scored and goalie Becca Tudor made 14 saves for Rice.
The Tigers wrap up their regular season this week. They were set to host Rice on Wednesday and are scheduled to visit Spaulding at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. MUHS looks to be either the No. 7 or 8 seed in a nine-team state playoffs field; if the Tigers are the No. 8 seed they would host a play-in game, probably on this coming Wednesday.
