Monkton News for Feb. 22
MONKTON — Activities at the Russell Memorial Library for this school vacation week will be on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 3-5 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Craft tables will be set up both days for children of all ages to enjoy two different projects. One project will include several different bird feeder designs. The second craft project is called “beads are baaack” in which a child can use some great materials to create bracelets, bookmarks and more. Don’t miss these fun ‘make and take’ craft days.
Also on Saturday, Feb. 24, “Saturday Stories” returns with a program on dinosaurs. There will be stories, songs and simple crafts about those intriguing prehistoric animals. For any more information about any of these exciting days, call 453-4471.
Mark your calendars to stop in and join the librarians for an interesting few hours any day.
Did you know that you can get museum passes at the library? You can borrow a pass to Echo or the Shelburne Museum for substantial discounts to families. Check it out while you are there for craft days or call.
Registered voters will be receiving their 2017 Town Report in the mail the week of Feb. 19. If you do not get one in the mail, there will be some on hand at the Town Clerk’s office. Remember that Town Meeting (March 3 this year) now falls on the Saturday before the first Tuesday of March. This is the day that town monies are approved for spending and several articles are passed or vetoed. Town meeting starts at 10 a.m. and continues until all articles are gone through, usually with a break for lunch. There will be a meeting about the school unification plan before Town Meeting, beginning at 9 a.m.
On March 6, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Monkton Volunteer Fire Dept. to elect Town officials, vote on the school budgets and the Amendments to the Unified Planning Document by Australian Ballot. Your vote is your voice.
On Feb. 24, at the recycling center, the Boy Scouts will be handing out paper bags for people to fill with food for the food shelf. You can bring the filled bag back to the recycling center on March 10 and the scouts will be there to collect it from you. Thank you in advance for your support.
Watch for more information about the Erik Davis Memorial Dinner on March 10. This year there will be a change of menu that will feature chicken and biscuits, with take-outs available.
The present auditors would like to peak your interest in becoming a town Auditor. Another position that’s new this year is for a part time assistant Zoning Administrator. If you think you would be interested, please contact the town hall (453-3800) to arrange a meeting.
