In girls’ basketball: Mount Abe claims local wins
ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham swept rivalry games against Middlebury and Vergennes to highlight local high school girls’ basketball action late last week. In other action MUHS lost a road game.
EAGLES ROLL
On Thursday three Eagle forwards reached double figures as Mount Abe topped visiting MUHS, 54-43. Emma Carter led the way with 24 points and also chipped in eight steals, Jalen Cook scored 13, and Emma Radler contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
Keagan Dunbar led the Tigers with 26, and Ashley Sunderland added eight as the Tigers’ five-game winning streak was snapped.
On Friday the host Eagles improved to 12-4 by topping visiting Vergennes, 53-23. Carter led a balanced Eagle attack with 12 points and added eight rebounds and seven steals as Mount Abe won its fifth straight and improved to 12-4. The Eagles also maintained their hold on a top-four spot in Division II. Brianna Vanderway scored six to lead the Commodores, who dropped to 3-13
TIGERS LOSE
On Saturday host North Country (12-4) remained unbeaten in Lake Division play by defeating the Tigers, 42-19. Kylie Wright led the Falcons with 16 points and nine boards. Shannon Sunderland scored 10 for the 6-9 Tigers.
