Vermont State Police Log: Four cited in Orwell after heroin investigation

ADDISON COUNTY — Four people are facing heroin charges as the result of a Vermont State Police investigation into drug activity at an Orwell home last Saturday.
At around 1 p.m. on Feb. 3 troopers executed a search warrant at a Roberts Avenue home in Orwell. Police said they found four individuals — Boris J. Serkalow, 29, of West Rutland; Brian Burdge, 43, of Orwell; Jamie Trinci, 37, of Orwell; and Benjamin Krans, 37, of Sudbury — each had a misdemeanor amount of heroin in their possession. They were each cited for possession of the drug.
Police also arrested Griffith Mahoney, 30, of Orwell when he arrived at the residence; he was cited for driving with a criminally suspended license.
All subjects were placed under arrest, transported to the New Haven state police barracks and released with citations to answer the charges in Addison County District Court, criminal division, on April 23.
In other recent activity, state police:
•  Closed both lanes of Route 7 just north of the Ferrisburgh/Charlotte town line to clean up after a tractor-trailer jack-knifed at around 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 30. The highway was cleared and traffic was flowing within a little more than an hour.
•  On Feb. 1 at 1:34 a.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Route 73 in Orwell. A trooper reported that one of the passengers provided a false name, and through investigation the trooper reported that the passenger was Scott Furness of Pittsford, who had an active arrest warrant in Vermont. The trooper took Furness into custody, cited him for giving false information to a police officer and lodged him at the Marble Valley Regional Correction Facility.
•  On Feb. 3 at just before 6 p.m. cited Reilly Case, 18, of New Haven for speeding. Police alleged that Case was driving 85 mph in a 50 mph zone on Route 7 near Town Hill Road in New Haven.
•  On Feb. 4, during a traffic stop on Main Street in Vergennes, cited Skylar Bessette, 26, of Winooski for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Feb. 5 at approximately 3:50 p.m. responded to the report of a three-car crash on Route 30 near Parkhill Road in Cornwall. Initial reports indicated that a fuel truck was involved in the crash.
Police report that Christopher Mitchell, 31, of Sudbury stopped his Toyota Tacoma pickup on Route 30 to let a fuel truck driven by 24-year-old Alex Newton of Clarendon back into a nearby driveway. At this point, Wayne Gorton, 65, of Salisbury, who was driving a Chevy Silverado southbound on Route 30 at around 55 mph, came up behind Mitchell’s pickup and attempted to stop too late. The Silverado struck the back of the Tacoma, causing the Tacoma to strike the rear end of the oil truck.
Middlebury Regional EMS staff evaluated all three drivers and released them at the scene. The two pickups were considered a total loss, and the oil truck sustained minor rear-end damage.
Route 30 was closed for several hours as a result of this motor vehicle crash.
State police were assisted by the Cornwall Fire Department.
