Girls’ hockey splits road games
ESSEX — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team split a pair of road games last week and stands at 4-8 heading into two games this week, at Beekmantown, N.Y., on Wednesday and at home vs. the Colchester-Burlington collective at 5 p.m. on Friday.
On this past Wednesday the Tigers edged host Mount Mansfield/Champlain Valley, 1-0, reversing an earlier 4-0 home loss to the CougarHawks. Tiger goalie Abby Hodsden worked a 29-save shutout, and Helen Anderson’s second-period goal proved to be the game-winner. Goalie Joanna Wright made 22 saves for the 4-7-1 CougarHawks.
On Saturday host Essex defeated the Tigers, 3-1, despite another 51 saves from Hodsden. Izzy Pistilli’s second-period goal tied the game for the Tigers, but Essex scored twice in the third for the win.
Maddy Young, Abby Robbins and Olivia Miller-Johnson scored for the 10-3 Hornets, and Sophie Forcier made 17 saves.
