Take Tai Chi classes to prevent falls

MIDDLEBURY — Many students of Tai Chi feel an enhanced sense of balance, stability, joint flexibility, awareness of surroundings, and mindfulness, all building confidence in their ability to perform daily activities.
With this in mind, Age Well and Ilsley Public Library have joined forces to offer a Tai Chi class to help prevent falls. Jerry Henderson, a certified Sun style instructor, will introduce and guide participants through basic Tai Chi principles, the moves of Tai Chi fall prevention, and related Qigong exercises in a series of classes beginning Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Ilsley Public Library.
Since retiring two and a half years ago, Henderson has focused on applying his Taoist Tai Chi practice from 45 years ago to learning new skills from local teachers, workshops, study, and practice. Henderson looks forward to imparting his knowledge in a structured teaching system while sharing an open learning experience with all participants.
Class size is limited. Interested participants can register through Ilsley Library at 802-388-4095. For questions about the class contact Henderson at 802-453-3804 or 802-598-1830. Classes are free for those 50 and over, and are sponsored by, Ilsley Library and Age Well, and run through April 24.
