Local faith groups plan workshop on climate
MIDDLEBURY — The Interfaith Climate Action Network (ICAN), composed of Addison County faith communities concerned about climate change and stewardship of the planet, is sponsoring “Recharge Together: A Day of Active Hope” on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society at 2 Duane Court.
The workshop is a follow-up to a similar workshop of a year ago — “Active Hope Inspiration and Courage for Times of Great Change.” Dramatic planetary and political changes and events of the past year present a challenge to find and maintain equanimity, both internally and in community. This day of experiential, interactive practices, inspired by the work of Buddhist Joanna Macy, will provide an opportunity to deeply embrace pain and gratitude in these times, to help participants be fully present, and to empower them to contribute to personal, interpersonal and planetary healing.
Marc Lapin and Kristen Andrews will facilitate. Lapin has more than 10 years experience working with Joanna Macy and presenting workshops. Andrews brings a diversity of experience as an educator, non-profit director, herbalist, and farmer and engages in and encourages practices of earth-connection, gratitude, and reciprocity.
There are two registration options for the workshop: a half day from 9 a.m.-noon and a full day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided and attendees are asked to bring a lunch. There is a suggested $10 donation, which will go to a local non-profit. To register, contact Heidi Willis [email protected] or at 802-352-4327.
