Vergennes Police Log: Police investigate claim of child pornography

VERGENNES — Vergennes police said they cannot release any details, but they are investigating a child pornography case.
City police said they began investigating the case on Jan. 8, and are working with the Addison County Special Investigations Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
In other action between Jan. 8 and 14, Vergennes police:
•  On Jan. 8 helped Vermont State Police by directing traffic around a jackknifed truck on Route 22A in Panton just over the city line. Vergennes police said they were there for about an hour.
•  On Jan. 8 dealt with a minor two-car accident on Monkton Road.
•  On Jan. 8 took a report of a possible phone scam; it was unsuccessful.
•  On Jan. 9 started investigating vandalism to a car owned by a City Limits bartender believed to have been done by a customer who left the bar; police were planning to review video to ID the suspect.
•  On Jan. 10 helped push a car off Green Street in Waltham that was stuck partially blocking the road.
•  On Jan. 10 took a series of complaints from drivers caught in traffic on West Main Street; police said the Canal Street trash and recycling station appeared to be understaffed, causing a backup that stretched onto the main road.
•  On Jan. 10 twice helped state police in Ferrisburgh, once at a Route 7 vehicle search, and once to check a report of loose animals on Little Chicago Road, where none were found.
•  On Jan. 12 called the Department of Motor Vehicles to deal with an unlicensed driver of a truck that was stuck on the Otter Creek bridge; the DMV officer also inspected the truck for violations, police said.
•  On Jan. 12 heard a complaint from a Main Street apartment resident that someone was throwing garbage into his trashcans.
•  On Jan. 13 picked up a loose dog in the West Main Street area and took it to be impounded at the Vergennes Animal Hospital.
•  On Jan. 14 ticketed and towed a vehicle in violation of the city’s winter parking ban.
•  On Jan. 14 took a report of an apparent phone scam in which the caller claimed the complainant’s car had hit his and he was owed money.
•  On Jan. 14 helped a motorist get into a locked car on South Water Street.
•           On Jan. 14 ticketed a city resident for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
